Grammatical Knowledge

This graphic is a summary of the recommended grammatical concepts for students to reach competence in production at a given level. Concepts were selected based on the CLB Document 2012; however, they are not exhaustive and will necessary overlap across the levels when considering skill and competency.

There are two pages to the graphic, page 1 is about Stage I (CLB 1-4) and page 2 is about Stage 2 (CLB 5-7).

Lauren Hébert’s article explains the ideas behind the “Grammatical Knowledge” graphic  featured on the TESL Canada Journal. It shows how grammar often gets pushed aside in LINC classrooms, even though learners and teachers find it useful. The graphic was made to highlight why grammar still matters in task-based teaching.
