The Reference Lists below complement the ESL Literacy Benchmark Profiles and reflect the Continuum of Literacy Skills from CLB: ESL for ALL in addition to instructors' input. They are subdivided into literacy levels (low and high) with the exception of the Foundation L level, and further divided into Key Supporting and Supporting Skills.
These lists are intended as planning and instructional tools. They are not checklists for assessments or promotion purposes.

Use the pages below from the CLB Document and CLB: ESL for ALL when planning for instruction and assessment. The former document provides the competencies, indicators of ability, features of communication and sample tasks for each language skill. The latter equips the former document with characteristics, needs and sample tasks for ESL Literacy learners in Foundation to 4L levels. The ESL Literacy Benchmark Profiles for Reading and Writing is an ECSD LINC document that summarizes the information from both sources.
